The war of World War I had been going on many years
before the U.S. decided to join.  There were many
attempts to make them become part of the war.  Such
as the Germans bombing all the U.S trade ships heading
to the British and the British making a blockade to
stop the U.S. from trading with the Germans.  But one
of the final attempts was the Zimmerman note. This was
a letter sent on January 19th 1917 to the leader of
Mexico from the German leaders stating that if Mexico
took part in the war that after the Germans would help
them gat back the ‘lost land “of New Mexico,
Texas and Arizona. So on April 6, 1917, the United
States Congress formally declared war on Germany and
its allies.
