Playoff Bound Football Cardinals
The Cardinals punished the Euclid Panthers 31-6 to end the regular season at 9-1 (5-0 in the LEL) while winning the LEL title for the second year in a row (5th time in the last 6 years!). The victory all but assures the #1 playoff spot in Region 1, Division 1 heading into next weeks home game. Mentor started the scoring with their first safety in the new millenium on a botched punt by Euclid. Kevin Harper followed that with a 39 yard field goal during the constant rain. Bill Deitmen may have broken a school record with the next score as he sprinted 97 yards for a TD (Did the track coaches see that?). Bart Tanski hit Tyler Schutz for a 42 yard score ending the first half with a 17-6 lead. In the 4th quarter, Adam Mayse picked off a Euclid pass and ran it 25 yards for the score. Finally, Deitmen ended the scoring with a 20 yard run (his 19th TD this season). STAT OF THE NIGHT: Billions of ra in drops fell on the new Jerome T. Osborne Jr. playing field and it drained to perfection! Thanks again to the Osborne family for this wonderful jewel. Join us next week as the Cardinals host a playoff game. Stay tuned for the date, opponent and game time. GO CARDS!
