The Plain Dealer will select 10 students this year as "Senior Standouts". Each will be profiled in stories and each will receive a $250 scholarship. They are looking for well-rounded seniors whose efforts have made them exemplary. Excellence in academics, school activities and involvement in the community is the baseline.

The City Club of Cleveland is sponsoring this essay competition. They will award 3 prizes of $1,000, $750 and $500 each. The teachers of the top 3 winners will receive $250. Twenty finalists will also be chosen. The finalists and guests will be invited to attend a City Club luncheon.

1. Must be a senior residing in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Portage, Lake, Lorain, Medina or Summit County.

2. Must submit an essay on the topic, "What The Freedom of Speech of the U.S. Constitution means to me", maximum 300 words.

The Ohio University Women

The National Commission for Cooperative Education, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing high quality, college-level cooperative education, is offering 170 merit co-op scholarships totaling $4.2 million to students who are planning to participate in college cooperative education. The Cleveland Chapter of the National Television Academy is offering two $2,000 scholarships to graduating seniors planning to attend a four-year college.

Honoring the legacy and character of our nation's 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher educations. Each year, roughly 20 Scholars will receive a $10,000 scholarship which is renewable for an additional 3 years.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland is sponsoring the "Economics on TV?"creative writing contest. Students are asked to write an essay, play, short story or poem based on this topic. Prizes will be awarded to the top three winners in each category: essays and poems/short stories/plays. 1st place prize is a $500 savings bond, 2nd prize is a $250 savings bond, 3-runners-up prizes of $100 savings bonds and 5 semifinalists will receive a $50 savings bond.



Criteria:

The Cardinal Community Credit Union will award EIGHT $1,000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors from their service area at the credit union's Annual Meeting which will be held at the end of March.



CRITERIA:

1. Parents or applicant must be member of Cardinal Community Credit Union as of 12/31/11.

2. Must be a senior and have completed two (2) years at the school they are attending

3. Must have a 3.0 or above GPA after six semesters and a certified grade transcript

4. A letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or administrator who can report your abilities regarding your chosen field of study. For example, a prospective engineer might use a recommendation from a math or science teacher.

5. Must include an essay (up to 250 words) on: What do you think CCCU can do to reach out to young adults? Discuss what you would like to see in terms of financial education. What products and services are relevant to your lifestyle?

6 Must be applying to any accredited post-secondary educational program.

7. Finalists may be requested to appear before the scholarship committee for an interview.

MENTOR HIGH DEADLINE: 2/23/12

This scholarship was established to assist and encourage students to achieve academic excellence in secular education. It is hoped that the recipients will be encouraged to further the humanitarian principles and ideals to which Mr. and Mrs. Berger have been dedicated. They will award $2,000/year with a maximum of $8,000 providing the student maintains a 3.0 gpa each year and completing required courses.



Criteria:



1. Must be a resident of Cuyahoga County or its contiguous counties.

2. Must have minimum 3.5 gpa

3. Minimum 1850 SAT and/or 28 ACT

4. They prefer that the applicant be planning to attend an Ohio state-supported college, but there will be no restriction on choice of school other than it be for a secular education.

5. To qualify for the scholarship the student must agree to take a college course in Comparative Religion or if the school does not offer that, the second choice would be World Philosophy or World Literature.

6. There are no restrictions in regard to age, race, ethnic origin, sex of religion.

7. Financial need is a consideration. FAFSA forms and parents 2011 tax forms must be included.





MHS DEADLINE: 2/24/12

This scholarship was established in 2006 to help students who have faced adversity or have taken the initiative to volunteer their time to help others in need. They will award 4-$2,000 renewable scholarships for a maximum of $8,000. Student must maintain full-time status, 3.0 gpa and stay on track to graduate in four years in a bachelor degree program. The Wick Poetry Center at Kent State will award three scholarships: 1st place $3,000, 2nd Place $2,000, 3rd Place $1,000. These tuition scholarships are renewable up to four years pending continued academic standing.

MENTOR HIGH DEADLINE: 4/20/12

Ridge Middle School PTA has announced that it will award three-$500 scholarships to graduating seniors.



CRITERIA:



1. Use for educational training beyond high school (four or two-year college, vocational school)

2. Must have been a student at Ridge at least two years

3. Academics

4. Service/work experience

5. Character, leadership, responsibility

6. Financial need

7. Recommendation from a teacher, counselor

CSU will offer a $3,000 Merit Award that is renewable up to $12,000 over four years. In addition, if students choose to live on campus in Euclid Commons or Fenn Tower residence halls, they will receive an additional $2,000 award that is renewable up to $8,000 over four years. These scholarships are automatically awarded to qualified students, no application is necessary



Criteria:

1. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 gpa and a minimum ACT of 23 or SAT of 1070.

2. Qualifying freshmen must be admitted to CSU by May 1.

Lubrizol Corporation is offering a unique opportunity to motivated and financially challenged minority students in Lake County. They will award two renewable scholarships in the amount of $4,500 each. Some students may also be able to take advantage of summer internship opportunities with Lubrizol in their field of study following their freshman year.

CRITERIA:

1. U.S. Citizen and resident of Lake County

2. Be African American, American Indian, Asian Pacific American, or Hispanic American

3. Graduating in 2012.

4. Minimum gpa of 3.0 (must maintain 2.5 in college)

5. Must be accepted as a full-time student at a four-year accredited college/university to study in one of the following fields: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science or Business Administration (Accounting, Environmental Management, Marketing or Finance)

6. Must be Pell eligible

7. Must not be a dependent of a Lubrizol employee

8. Based on academic achievement, financial need, determination to obtain undergraduate degree, evidence of involvement in community and school activities, service, leadership roles

The AnimationCareerReview.com organization will award three $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors in Ohio who intend to pursue an animation-related field at an accredited post-secondary school or college.



Criteria:

1. Applicant must be intending to pursue an animation-related field at any accredited post-secondary school or college.

2. Must have a demonstrable record of academic success.

3. Must have a passion and drive for an animation and/or design related career.

4. Selection is based on applicants high school academic performance combined with the student's application essay.

Nova Films & Foils is a manufacturing corporation in Bedford, Ohio. They will award renewable scholarships in amounts between $500 and $1,500. The goal of this scholarship is to increase the number of trained individuals in Lake and Geauga Counties to ensure qualified workers for the future of Nova Films & Foils and area companies. Awards will be made directly to the school to cover academic expenses.



Criteria:

1. Must be a U.S. citizen and reside in Lake or Geauga County.

2. Applicant must supply the SAR (Student Aid Report from the FAFSA summary)

3. Must be planning to enroll in an accredited trade/technical, 2 or 4-year college/university in the fall of 2012. Schools must be eligible to receive Federal financial aid.

4. Minimum unweighted gpa of 2.5 and minimum ACT of 22 or SAT of 1030 (Critical Reading and Math) is required.

5. Applicant must be planning to study full-time in one of the following areas: Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, Computer Science), Engineering/Manufacturing Technologies, Information Technology, Marketing, Business.

6. 500-word essay and a transcript are required in addition to filling out the application.



MHS Deadline: 5/9/12

The Americans of Italian Heritage will award four scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each for graduating seniors.



CRITERIA:



1. Residents of Lake, Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Geauga counties

2. At least one parent of applicant must be of Italian descent

3. Must plan to attend either a 2 or 4-year college/university as full time student

4. Scholarships will be awarded within three categories: 1) gpa of 2.5 to 2.99, 2) gpa of 3.0 to 3.5, 3) gpa of above 3.5

5. Well rounded student who can demonstrate their dedication and commitment to continuing their education

6. Two letters of recommendation

7. Demonstrated financial need

8. Financial Aid Award letter from college planning to attend

This scholarship is offered through the generosity of the sponsors of the Student Award Search Aid website sponsors. It is available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as students currently registered in any post-secondary institution. Criteria:

2. Must write an essay of 1000 or less on the topic: "How has your education contributed to who you are today, or how it will effect who you will become?"

ONLINE DEADLINE: 5/28/11

This scholarship is designed to assist students interested in a career in the field of biotechnology including high caliber lab work. It will be awarded for two years and will cover the cost of tuition and fees up to $8,100. Scholarships will be awarded until all money is exhausted. All applicants not receiving this award will be considered for any additional funds or new scholarships that become available during the year. It is to the student's advantage to apply as soon as possible. Lakeland's program has over a 90% placement rate into biotech jobs or straight into a bachelor degree program.



Criteria:

1. Must have a 3.0 or better gpa

2. Applicants may not qualify for more than $500 through state or federal grants

3. Applicants must have completed or be enrolled in the following high school courses: Biology, Chemistry and Algebra II (or their equivalent).

4. Recipients must enroll at Lakeland in the Bioscience Technology program for fall 2012 and maintain a minimum 3.0 gpa.

5. Must complete FAFSA
