Words cannot explain how much I mourn the loss of Mr. Korchek! When I heard of the tragic news from my brother, Tom, I was dumbfounded! He said he heard from Jim Bontempo, a Mentor High teacher's son, and our family friend. I couldn't believe what I heard! I just wished I could have seen him again and tell him how much he inspired and helped me throughout high school. His kind deeds will be in my thoughts forever. I was looking forward to seeing him again at the teacher's annual Christmas party that he invited me to when I visited him last year that he was planning to attend this year and introduce me to other teachers and his wife. It was touching that he thought of me like that and invited me and told me he thought of me as a friend now. He was my favorite teacher ever! My senior year I was so lucky to have him as my Analysis teacher. He and I would chat often and exchange jokes. He had an awesome sense of humor, and he would always make me laugh when I needed to hear a good joke when I was feeling down. I would always tease him about his expressions like, "Holy Hannah!" and "Good grief!" My senior year I had a "Holy Hannah count" and kept track of how many times he said his expression. I told him about this, and he just laughed and got a kick out if it. He signed my yearbook and kindly stated, "Val,I wish you the best. Be great at whatever you do! Thanks for being a good student." This made me feel good, and showed me how much he cares for his students. I want to thank him again for being such a great teacher like I did when I visited him last year. He was such a compassionate man, and always wore a smile on his face. This year, when I heard he retired, I sent him an e-card because I wanted him to know how much he inspired me. I hope he received it, because I wanted him to know what a great teaher and friend he had always been to me. I just wish I could be like he was! All of his students loved him, and so did the fellow teachers. There aren't many people like Mr. Korcheck was! He was truly one in a million! I hope he knew that everyone cared about him, because I am sure he would be smiling right now, knowing how much his students and fellow teachers loved him. If only I was able to tell him that myself! Mr. Korchek, even though you are gone physically, you will live on in all of our memories! You were one of the most caring people I have ever met! I hope to be as great of a teacher and person you were some day! Then I will know that I was successful like you were! Your life was short in years, but, in this brief time, you have touched the lives of so many people it is unbelievable! This is evident in how so many people talk about how much they cared about you. I have heard so many people say such good things about you, and all of this praise is so well-deserved. You will live on in all of our memories because you have touched our hearts!

State of shock, denial are words that come to mind about the loss of Mitch Korchek. As many of the teachers here at Mentor High will say, he was a colleague and more importantly a friend. He was a great teacher and a lot of fun. Calculus students who forgot to put a "C" at the end of the integrals had to wear the "golden C" for a day. In recent years he would take their picture with a digital camera and for the "wall of shame" in his classroom. Students just loved this as well as the pro-metric/anti-metric trash talking that went on between us. There were many students that had him for math and me for Physics so we could "use" students to carry "barbs" back and forth. On Monday, Scott Schmucker who graduated 2 years ago stopped in to confirm what he had heard. He had heard from friends at the Univ of Toledo. Senior Kenny Sechnick who is the lab manager for MentorHigh.com asked is he could do his first ever html for the website. So I know there are many many students and colleagues who will miss Mr. Korcheck.

I am on the class of 92 reunion committee and I check this site to see if people have registered their email address here. We have also tried to get something on this site through the webmasters, but that doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I also check classmates.com and reunion.com. Just some ideas. I also have the alumni book that I am going though and I send out postcards to people trying to verify their info and request updates. Of course we are working on our first reunion, so this is quite time consuming! Good luck! webmaster note: please send any reunion info/pics you have and we will post it.Send email to: webmaster@mentorhigh.com

Is the Class of '73 having a reunion in the summer? I would have graduated at MSU, but moved to Indiana in '71.
Written on Nov 15, 2002
i don't think people really look at this website for class reunions. I think if your class was to have a reunion they would mail you something. It doesn;t seem to be worth checking this site for reunions. And why do people tell you where they live or what there future is like it makes no sense.!!!

I believe that the Cardnial Band is good but doesn't deserve as much suppoet as the sports teams. If it wasn't for the sports teams there wouldn't even be a band.. Good Luck football team at Canton. Beat Warren Harding you guys can do it.. Go Cards!!

I think that he site looks great with the flash nav bar! I should be there to visit soon maybe when I have my vacation time from work. I really miss being there on the team with all of the webmasters and my friends such as Mr. Ramsey, Shaun, and many more. Please feel free to see one of my sites inspired by Mr. Ramsey and his smarts of tables lol at www.angelfire.com/band/cdlyrics. I really miss it there being with a team as a webmaster with them. I still do work when I'm not there, but it's not the same being there everyday at the school.

i think this site needs some more info about the school store, like about the clothes that are for sale, like the mentor sweatshirts, like the prices and where to get them
L'anza - Written on Oct 9, 2002
this site needs more student information. isn't mentor high aboout each individual student. each student should have a passwork to let them get into the student info page to let them look at their grades, perhaps even a student directory.
