Mrs. Welshans was a Mentor of the Mentor High School staff for over 20 years and over 30 years in the Mentor Schools.Mrs. Welshans loved the arts and taught with passion and conviction. Mr. Spiccia answers: The parking guidelines consist of three criteria: 1. Minimum GPA of 2.0 2. No more than 10 absences in any one school year 3. No more than 2 suspensions in any one school year All students that meet the criteria are placed in a lottery and all students are placed on the list randomly. The criteria are fair because students have control over they [whether they]meet the criteria or not, and the list is created randomly. Unfortunately, there are only about 500 student spaces in the parking lot and about 2000 eligible drivers over 1500 of which are juniors and seniors. Most students who would like to be able to drive to school are unable because of space constraints.

I reccommend you read the article describing the student interview with Mr Spiccia. It's really quite readable and interesting and lets ya know about the man with the plan! Mr Spiccia met with some fall sports teams this fall.. and he intends to talk with every student this year. He seems like a great guy and really cares about us! So feel free to talk with him.. really personable guy. Yeah.. peace out, enjoy your school year everyone.

There will be no change in the exam schedule. Open exams will continue as in the past. With regard to leaving school early: The guidance counselors have been instructed to follow the guidelines that are in place in the Parent-Student Handbook regarding Drop and Add Regulations (P. 13) The handbook states that students may only drop classes or changes schedules if: 1. A technical error was made in the process of scheduling a student's requests 2. The student has been clearly academically misplaced. 3. There was a scheduling conflict. Teacher load, class size and schedule balance may all be disrupted if students are allowed to change schedules for purposes of leaving school early or for other purposes outside of the guidelines. Schedules changes will not be made for purposes of teacher preference or other reasons that fall outside of the guidelines. Mentor High School makes over 15,000 schedule placements. Many students would like to change schedules for reasons outside of the guidelines. It would not be fair to allow some students to change schedules for reason other than those stated in the guidelines and not others. If we to try to make every change requested the schedule could be seriously disrupted and that would not serve the students and staff best interests. If a student has a schedule that allows him/her to leave school early, he/she will be allowed to do so. I hope this answers the question and brings clarity to the issues. Mr. Spiccia
