The Football Cardinals put another classic in the books by defeating the Massillon Tigers 56-52. The victory raises the Cards record to 4-1. The Mentor faithful made the long drive down to Massillon to witness another outstanding game. The football game turned into a track meet in the first quarter. Mentor scored twice in the 1st quarter on two Tom Worden TD runs. Down 17-14 after the first, the Cards scored the next 2 TD's finally taking a 35-31 halftime lead. Both teams went into the locker room totaling 660 yards. The third quarter saw only 1 Mentor score (yawn ...) as the teams continued to score back and forth. Mentor scored with 4:01 left in the game to take a 49-45 lead. Massillon answered with a 21 yard TD giving the Tigers the lead at 52-49 with only 1:52 left. Mentor took possession on their own 20 to start the final drive. 9 plays later ... Bart Tanski hit Steve Orkis on an 8 yard strike with only 24 seconds left in the game to give the screaming Mentor student section reason to celebrate.
