Harvest for Hunger is collecting non-perishable food items for families in need! Suggested items include:

Tuna Fish
Peanut Butter and Jelly
Pasta and Sauces
Canned Stew/Meats
Canned Vegetables/Fruit
Macaroni and Cheese

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Couch or Mrs. Waltz. Mr. Spiccia has prizes for the top three classes; a free lunch, a free breakfast, and a special prize. In addition many teachers have offered incentives;Needy families around Lake County have benefited from the generosity of the Mentor schools. Thank you for your support!

Senior Project Updates for 2008

Senior Project begins Monday, May 12, 2008 and runs through Monday, June 2, 2008

Senior Project Fair is Monday, June 2, 2008 from 4:30-6:30 pm at Mentor High School. This is open to the public.

Attendance at the Senior Project Fair is mandatory for all students who participate in the Senior Project Program.

Seniors, participating in the Senior Project and who meet all Project requirements, will be released on Friday, May 9, 2008.

Senior Speech Contest

Would you like to deliver a speech to your classmates friends, and family at the 2008 graduation ceremony? If so, turn in your 3-4 minute speech written out to the senior unit office (Mrs. Miller) before April 21. The contest will be held on April 29.

ASAP

ASSISTING STUDENTS FOR ACADEMIC PROGRESS........THE ASAP PROGRAM The ASAP Program began its first session for the 2007-2008 school year on November 14, 2007. Mentor High School's primary goal is to foster learning. Beginning with the 2004-2005 school year, Mentor High School established a study program for all students who were considered "at-risk" at the quarterly grade assessment. The ASAP Program takes place during non-class times throughtout the entire school day -7:22 a.m.- 2:26 p.m. The ASAP Program is not punitive nor remedial. This is a program that will assist students in maintaining completion of daily work. There are certified faculty, as well as peer and community facilitators that are available to help students who may require assistance in their work. If you have any questions, please call 974-5256.

Boys Basketball

The Boys basketball team lost the regional semi-finals last Tuesday, 88-61. They had a winning season and ended the year as District Champs! Great season guys! Go Cards!!

Hockey

HS Team of the Month:

The Mentor High School hockey program is in its 21st year of existance. The Cardinals play in the White West Division of the GCHSHL and finished the season in 2nd place with a league record if 7-3-0 and an overall record of 14-11-1.

This season, Mentor has participated in four tournaments: the Cold Turkey Shootout, Thornton Park, Trinity Christmas and the Ehrnfelt Memorial Tournament. The Cardinals are currently competing in the State District Tournament that is being held in Kent.

The 2007-2008 varsity team consists of six seniors, five juniors, and eleven sophomores. The Cardinals are led by Head Coach Mike Tinik and Assistant Coaches Nick Tinik and Mike Racutt, and play their home games at Mentor Civic Arena.

Wrestling

Wrestling is going strong as they hit the stride of their season, looking to win sectionals and move on to districts. Sectionals on Feb. 15 and 16. GO CARDS!

Spring Sports

Get ready to head back outside to cheer on your Mentor Cards! Spring sports like Track & Field, Baseball, Fastpitch, and Lacrosse are starting up with games soon approaching. Stay posted with the schedules and come support these exciting outdoor games!

Students that qualify for a free or reduced lunch will automatically qualify for free or reduced breakfast.

Free and Reduced Lunch Applications are available from the Unit Office, the Records Office, or the Main Office - one application per family.
