CARDINAL FOOTBALL ON THE SHORES OF LAKE ERIE by: Mr. Pat Leber The 2010 Mentor Cardinals kicked off the season with the St. Edward Eagles at Cleveland Browns stadium on a sunny, late-summer afternoon. St. Ed's controlled the first quarter taking a 14-0 lead. Mentor started their scoring on a Mike Korecz 1 yard TD run but St. Ed's answered with 2 more scores putting the Cards in a hole 28-7. But then the tides turned on the shores of Lake Erie. Korecz scored his second TD with 53 seconds left in the half taking the Cards into the locker room down 28-14. Mentor came out strong in the second half trading scores in the 3rd quarter yet one could feel the Cards were taking control of the game. Mentor's final score came with 8:10 left in the game on Korecz's 3rd TD closing the St. Ed's lead to 35-28. Mentor was driving during the final minute of the game but fell just short. The team looked very good in the second half gaining 264 yards compared to St. Ed's 138 yards. There's a lot to look forward to with the 2010 team. The Cards travel to Strongsville next Friday, September 3rd, to face the Mustangs. We'll see you there! GO CARDS!
