Congratulations to Olivia Sandrey and Nolan McClung who took 7th place in informative speech and congressional debate respectively. Congratulations to Karina Abraham and both Amanda Blatz and Patricia Hadzinski who took 5th place in Declamation and Public Forum Debate respectively. Congratulations to Logan Katoch and Liv Hudock who took 4th place Duo Interp speaking. Congratulations to Grace Eichler and April Gable who took 1st place Congressional Debate and Declamation at the Hathaway Brown Speech Tournament this past Saturday.

HELLO" .. . On Thursday, December 14th, Mentor High will be having a Just Say "Hello" Day. This day is a collaborative effort to bring the student body closer together. The clubs sponsoring this event are: CARDS Bullying Prevention Club, Pride, GAHTAH, Student Government, Future Leaders, and NHS. We will be handing out stickers to everyone walking through the doors Thursday morning. Please wear the stickers with pride and say HELLO to everyone you see that day in the halls, Cardinal Cafe, and the Hub. So again, Just Say "Hello" to everyone on Thursday, December 14th.

Make A Difference Club is an organization that encourages students to engage in their community through student-led and student-organized service projects. This club is open to anyone who needs service hours for various reasons or just wants to have fun and make a difference! If you are interested, please fill out the interest from on Schoology.

Intramural bowling will start next week on Tuesday! Bowling will be at Game of Mentor from 3-4 on Tuesday and Thursday. Please See Mrs. Johnson in room B101 or Mrs. Hart in room B103 to sign up. You need to provide your own transportation to and from bowling.

Health Care Club (HCC) at MHS is looking for students interested in the healthcare system. If you want to engage in meaningful discussion about our nation's healthcare, join HCC, where you will be able to voice your opinions and delve deeper into the nuances of effective healthcare. Whether your passion is medicine, business, or politics, HCC is a great nonpartisan way for everyone to pool their thoughts and take action on a critical issue in the US. Showing involvement in such a cause will look good on a college resume as well! If you are at all interested, come to our biweekly meetings every other Monday in room C210. Our next meeting will be at 2:30pm on December 4th. Please contact Michael Chen, Tommy Oddo, or Mr. Wolski with questions.

The first two weeks of November are designated as transgender awareness weeks. Look for prides table/videos in the cafeteria and posters around the building for information about what this means.

Mentor High School is excited to announce Career Conversations, a new speaker series focused on providing opportunities for students to explore a variety of career fields. This semester we will have speakers from the fields of education, healthcare, law, computer technology, criminal justice, cosmetology, skilled trades, and aviation. These events are open to ALL students and will be held in A-Lecture from 7:30-8:00 am on the first and third Wednesday of each month. The first Career Conversations will focus on education and will be January 17. Want to know what coding is? Do you want to understand the law? Do you want to help run a business? The College Credit Plus informational meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 17th, at 7:00p, in the Fine Arts Center. This meeting is strongly recommended for CCP students who intend to participate during the 2018-2019 academic year. All CCP students, both new and returning, must submit the Letter of Intent to Participate by April 1, 2018. You may contact your student's school counselor with questions.

The Army and Football Hall of Fame will award one student in the U.S. $2,500 based on athletics, academics and community service. 10th,11th,12th students on an athletic team with a 3.5 gpa and community service are eligible. Info in Guidance A114. MHS may nominate one student for this award. Our nominee will be chosen from those who complete the application and turn in the required documents by January 5, 2018. Three recommendation letters and a 500-word essay are required.

The Lake Shore Compact would like to invite sophomore students and their families to our Career Technical Education Expo on December 5th from 6:00 7:30 p.m. in the Euclid High School E-Room. This Expo is designed to provide all 10th grade students and their families more information about the 22 programs that we offer. Instructors and current career tech students will be here to discuss their program and answer any questions that you may have. The primary objective for each program is to prepare students to enter a four or two year college, a technical school or the career of their choosing. Seniors planning a career in nursing: You're eligible to apply for the Kathleen Durchik Nursing Scholarship. Mrs. Durchik graduated from MHS in 1973 and passed away on 2016. Her family and friends established this in her memory. Students interested in attending one of the U.S. Military Academies after graduation are invited to attend a meeting on Nov. 20 at 11:00 a.m. A Midshipman from Annapolis will be here to talk about the admissions process and educational opportunities of attending one of the U.S. Military Academies. The Early Childhood class is having a pajama & book drive. Scholastic Book Clubs will match every new pair of pajamas our school collects with a brand-new book in order to give children in need a warm and reassuring bedtime. If you would like to participate, please send a new pair of pajamas, in any size, to room D-100 by Dec. 13th.

 

Attention all students...get your fighting Cardinal hoodie or class year hoodie for only twenty-five dollars...Hoodies will be sold during the lunch mods. Sales will end Friday, November 17th.

 

The Cardinal Craft Show will be held Saturday, November 18th, 9 am-3 pm, at Mentor High School. Adults $3, seniors and students $2, 12 and under free. Sponsored by Cardinal Parents Club.

The MHS Career Expo is this Thursday from 10:30am to 12:30pm in the Paradigm. All students are invited to explore careers and all participants get a chance to win over $1,000 in prizes! Come during your study hall, lunch mods, or class time with permission from your teacher.
